Volcanic Activity

We have produced an ultra low speed cassette recorder with a low ‘popcorn’ noise amplifier to record volcanic activity from a remote seismometer for a week at a time. Such recordings can be played back at higher speed on an ordinary cassette player

The trained ear can pick out evidence of dangerous volcanic activity in minutes, compared with hours or days required for computer analysis of digital recordings.

The cost of the recorder is significantly less than that spent on digital recording equipment.
